Presentation Elements

Presentations will only be really powerful when the key elements work together. That means:

  • The speaker
  • The words
  • The visuals

The speaker must be credible, the words must be coherent and the visuals must be relevant.

The Nine WCS Pillars

What is the goal of the presentation? There are specific goals

( e.g. to get a sale) and generic goals. Here are a list
of nine generic goals - the pillars supporting every presentation:

  • To attract and interest the audience
  • To build credibility
  • To inform
  • To imply
  • To stir emotions
  • To persuade
  • To convince
  • To be remembered
  • To provoke an action

Most are obvious - though often still overlooked. For example, if a presentation doesn't attract and interest the audience nothing can happen. It must stir emotion because most business decisions are based on an emotional response rather than a logical one. It must imply because many benefits are more powerful when they are not made explicit and each presentation must provoke a specific action - otherwise it cannot succeed. Presentation examples

Visual Metaphor

A visual metaphor tells a story and delivers it with an emotional edge - without a single word. It's the most effective and powerful delivery system available.
